City-Wide Concerns
Issues I'm looking into for our entire city

Street Safety

Pedestrian Safety Downtown -- This is a real problem, and if we don't do something, someone is going to be seriously injured or killed.  I have been passed on the right while stopped for a pedestrian to cross the street, and luckily nobody has been hurt yet.  I noticed in the minutes of the Business Improvement District that this issue has been raised there.  I have spoken to Merton Lueptow about this and will speak to the police to see what we can do to improve the situation.  There has to be something we can do.

Update September 18, 2001 -- A set of pedestrian crossing signs for downtown has been ordered and should be installed soon.  I saw a set of these in use on a recent trip to Massachusetts and recommended their purchase to the City, and the rest of the Common Council agreed.  Hopefully, they'll improve the situation.
